The R-1051B Rear Panel...

Looking at the ass end (the rear panel) of an R-1051B can be intimidating to the novice R-1051B owner. There are three (3) coaxial connectors of two different types and four (4) circular jacks of three different types and a grounding connection. The following is a brief run down of what each of these does.

I'll start with the coaxial connectorts:

The first is J23 ANT. This is a female type N connector that is used to connect the antenna (50 ohm impedence) to the R-1051B receiver.

The second one is J24 . This is a female BNC connector that supplies a 5 megahertz signal from the internal frequency standard for use with other equipment.

The third coax connector is J25. It's another type N female connector. This connector is used to connect an external 5 MHz frequency standard to the receiver, if an external frequency standard is to be used.

OK, time to cover the circular connectors:

The first is J3. This is a three pin connector that is used for AC line voltage input when the receiver is used in a standalone fashion. When J3 is to be used to power the receiver, toggle switch S7 located inside the receiver behind the two headphone jacks on the front panel must be in the "AUX J3" position. Ok, back to J3, the "A" and "C" terminals are for the hot and neutral leads and the "B" terminal is the ground.

The next it J4, the System Control Connector. This is a rather large connector with more terminals than I feel like counting right now. This is used to connect the R-1051B to an interconnect box J-1265/U when using it with it's companion transmitter and amplifier. So, unless you have the rest of the AN/WRC-1* set, forget about it. Also, when the set is powered thru the interconnect box, toggle switch S7 must be in the "Normal Power J4" position.

J5 is the 600 ohm audio out connector for the FSK, AM, CW, USB, and one half of the ISB mode.

The last circular connector is J6. It's the 600 ohm audio output connector for the LSB mode and half of the ISB mode.

The Grounding Connection

Well, that's everything except the ground connection, the tapped hole in the lower corner below the coax connectors. Make damn sure that you ground the thing.
